5/18/12 Progress Report 7
I finished 2 more canvases from my series. My favorite one is a black and white one, with black underneath and scratched out white over the top, but the paint looks more wet than the initial 2 of the series that I made. I like this look better, it’s more defined. The other one I made was black underneath with a few different shades of blues overtop, and I scratched them out and overtop I traced some of the lines with a bright red colored pencil. It looks pretty cool. Now I just have to get ready for the art show!
5/2/12 Progress Report 6
I have just finished the beginning of my 2 canvas pieces and I brought in 2 more canvases and I want to make 2 more that are also similar because I am really enjoying it. I did one that was green and purple with black overtop and scratched out, and then I did the other one dark red and blue and I put white and neon green overtop and scratched that out as well. Overall I am really proud with how those two turned out.
4/13/12 Progress Report #5
I recently have just been exploring the usage of canvas, and painting on it. So far I have made two incomplete pieces where I would do fading color schemes with different colors, and then I would use either scissors or the back of a paintbrush to scrape and scratch it to create an interesting texture. I plan on somehow incorporating text into these pieces, to make it more unique. I am excited for what I can create with this, while expanding my variety of materials and ideas.
3/16/12 Progress Report #4
Over the past 2 weeks I have been creating pieces that contain melted crayons and hot glue. Once I scrape them and melt them together to create a texture and pattern, I go over it with water colors. It looks cool because the glue and everything won’t be effected by the water colors so it really makes it pop. Then I went over the water color in ink and created small designs around the top corners and stuff just to give it a new element. I made 2 pieces like that, and then I made one large piece, ripped it up and glued it back together and then went over it in water colors. It has different layers and textures and I just think it’s pretty interesting.
3/2/12 Progress Report #3
I have expanded my materials. I have been using charcoal and paint in order to create mixed media pieces. I also am going to be doing something with melted crayons and hot glue, but I haven’t really began that much yet. Having all this freedom is kind of difficult, but once I get started I know that I will be able to continue and create a lot of pieces and really pick it up.
2/17/12 Progress Report #2
I have created a larger series of what I had initially started. Observations using black oil pastels and charcoal and what I did was add a single color, to bring out a different light or view or something in the piece I made. Most recently, I completed a piece where I drew thumb tacks, obviously a lot bigger and they are randomly arranged and I have text as the background. I like using text, because I feel like it makes my work unique, since my handwriting is recognizably illegibly horrible but it makes it somehow look more complete. Anyway, I’m going to be continuing this but perhaps with investigating and experimenting with more mediums I may not particularly be comfortable with.
2/3/12 Progress Report #1
So far I have made 3 pieces that follow the criteria of the proposal I made initially. I am usingĀ charcoalĀ and chalk pastels to create the element I am looking for. One piece that I like the best is a drawing of the still life with black charcoal and green chalk pastels to be used as the background against the white figures of the still life display from last year. I am really enjoying this, which is the most important part, right? Getting a bit messy however, but thats the fun part. I expect to make a few more of this series and then perhaps make larger ones on canvas after. I’m still generating ideas, so I don’t want to rush into it too quickly.
